Teacher Satisfaction 96%
“You have amazing Staff at Mosman Prep”
This was some encouraging feedback I received from a parent last Saturday evening at the Welcome Event.
Such sentiments about our Staff are frequently expressed to me and are very affirming for us.
As stated in our current Strategic Plan, ‘The School’s talented and committed staff are our greatest strength.’ As such, in the enhancement of wellbeing and the pursuit of excellence, we affirm our commitment to:
- attracting, developing and retaining the finest boys’ educators.
- maintaining the highest levels of teaching.
- maximising wellbeing across the School.
To assess our success in meeting Strategic Goals, each year we undertake rigorous surveys within the School. These surveys are conducted independently by MMG Education. They allow us to compare our results against MMG Benchmarks from high performing similar schools (126 school projects and 14,346 respondents).
In 2022, this included surveys involving parents, Year 5 and 6 students, and staff. Due to the demands of such a comprehensive surveying, in 2023 we implemented a survey just for staff.
I am pleased to reveal that the MMG Managing Director who presented results back to our staff and School Council this week, stated that our results were ‘exceptional’. While the report is extremely comprehensive, three key pieces of data include:
- Overall teacher satisfaction: 96% (16% above MMG average)
- Staff Wellbeing: 82% (15% above MMG average)
- Student Wellbeing: 93% - as identified by staff (15% above MMG)
Educational researcher and university professor John Hattie identified collective teacher efficacy as having the greatest impact on student achievement. It involves the belief that teachers can more positively impact the learning of their students if they work as a team.
In schools with strong collective teacher efficacy, students learn more and their academic achievement increases (It is more impactful than, for example, socioeconomic status, parent involvement, motivation, home environment, and concentration).
Collective teacher efficacy is achieved through several different supportive structures. You can see these structures and our related survey performance alongside each.
- Supportive School Leadership: (10% above MMG average)
- Collaborative Teacher Culture: (11% above MMG)
- Professional Development: (5% above MMG)
- Positive Feedback and Recognition: (13% above MMG)
- Student Engagement and Success: (8% above MMG)
- Resources and Support: (10% above MMG)
- Personal Teaching Experience: (10% above MMG)
- School Climate and Culture: (12% above MMG)
With such results, it’s no wonder that our students are thriving both academically and in their wellbeing.
‘We have long known of the magic of highly skilled teachers in the learning of their students. But when individual teachers are isolated in their own classrooms with their students, that magic can go only so far. With collective teacher efficacy, teachers build off the strengths of their colleagues, believing together in their shared ability to influence their students’ learning. When teams of teachers are confident that their collaboration will yield better student outcomes, there is no limit to the success that students can achieve.’ Gradecam 2024
Our staff team is an exceptional professional learning community, empowering our boys to thrive both now and into the future.
