In Loving Memory: Honouring the Legacy of Ms Fiona Roden at Mosman Prep
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of a former and much valued staff member, Ms Fiona Roden.
From 2012 to 2017, Fiona served as a Primary School Teacher, imparting knowledge and shaping young minds. Her dedication to education was evident throughout her time at Mosman Prep, where she instilled a love for learning in her students.
Following her teaching years, Fiona transitioned into the Garden program, where she continued to inspire and educate. Until March 2023, she poured her energy into nurturing the garden at Terrey Hills, a testament to her commitment to fostering growth both inside and outside the classroom.
Underneath this message, you will see a reflection from Harley Collier (Prep School Captain, 2022), which highlights the impact Fiona had on our boys (and staff).
Throughout Fiona's courageous battle with cancer, she found great comfort and support in the ‘Chris O'Brien Lifehouse Charity’ and its associated choir group. In honour of Fiona's memory, the School will make a donation to this organisation, assisting them to continue their invaluable support of patients and their families. If any Prep families would like to contribute to this charity, please find the relevant link shared Donate My Lifehouse
To further celebrate Fiona's life with the broader school community, later this term, a Mufti Day will be held in her memory. On this day, students are encouraged to wear bright and colorful clothing and contribute a gold coin. All funds raised will go towards our fundraising for the ‘Chris O'Brien Lifehouse Charity’. Further details regarding this Mufti Day celebration will be advertised shortly.
Peter Grimes | Headmaster
Dear Mr Grimes,
On behalf of my whole family, we would like to express how deeply sorry we are to hear about Ms Roden. I am greatly impacted by the loss of such a special teacher. She knew each of us as individuals and taught us accordingly to ensure we reached our individual goals. She recognised each of our strengths, which she always celebrated and if we had any challenges she would always support us. I remember her for the stories she told to us. I would completely immerse myself in her stories because of the way she delivered them. Every story had a deeper meaning, which Ms Roden would explain and encourage us to use in our everyday lives. I remember her for being strong even when she knew she was not well. When she found out she was not well, she did not let her illness get her down, instead she put on her walking shoes and raised money to help others. Ms Roden never stopped giving. Ms Roden's passing will be felt throughout the Mosman Prep community forever. Her vegetable garden was just one of her many legacies. Ms Roden’s joyful smile will still be felt each morning as the sunrises above the school and our homes. I’d like to thank her for all she has done for us as a school and community.
Best regards,
Harley Collier
