What a term!
As a staff we often reflect on the activities that have taken place over the past term. It is a rewarding experience to be reminded of the rich and successful 2022 journey thus far.
Closely connected to the powerful classroom learning during the term, our boys have benefitted from fabulous learning experiences, including the Year 6 trip to Canberra, the inaugural Coffs Harbour Aboriginal Connection adventure, Year 4 Lake Macquarie Camp, numerous excursions and enrichment opportunities, connection with Queenwood girls, Bear Pit Public Speaking, a huge array of sporting opportunities including the gymnastic, dance and swimming programs, empowering parents events, Book Week and Science Week immersions, the Father’s Day Breakfast, and the powerful parent teacher meetings and student led conferences.
Our planning for the precinct upgrade of the basketball court area and the development of a Creative Arts Music Facility have progressed well, with selection of architects, discussions with heritage experts, and stage 1 concept plans discussed at the School Council level.
After open consultation with parents, staff, the School Council and Old Boys, it is exciting to see the progress made by staff in the development of our new strategic plan, where we have been reviewing our direction, purpose, priorities, and goals. An effective, future-focused strategic plan can be instrumental in inspiring and uniting the community, keeping focus on what matters, and preparing teachers and students alike to be change agents in a world of challenges and opportunities. Fruit of our planning has already transpired. Over the coming weeks, the strategic direction will be shared with our community.
Our Terrey Hills Outdoor Learning Centre and program continues to provide powerful wellbeing and learning opportunities for our boys (and Queenwood girls) as they take advantage of (amongst other things) the kitchen garden and cooking program, low ropes obstacle course, bike riding program, and the sporting fields. It is well known that outdoor education has many benefits for a boy’s physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. It can build confidence, protect against mental health issues, stimulate enjoyment, and improve memory and concentration in the classroom. The program empowers boys’ learning by providing additional learning relevance, connection, experimentation and hands-on activities. I invite you to enjoy (and share with family and friends) our recently developed linked video of Terrey Hills (also found on our website).
It is fabulous that we have welcomed 13 new students to Mosman Prep during Terms 3 and 4 this year, and we look forward to the continued enrolment growth pattern we are seeing.
I wish you a very safe and happy upcoming holiday period, whether you are enjoying some annual leave or simply a change in routine.
